What is Las Fallas All About?

Fire Festivals of Valencia, Spain is full of rich culture and rituals that date back to the middle ages. March 15 through the 19 marks the time for competing neighborhood groups to use symbolism to create 'ninots' for their grand pyre. This tradition has the idea of Catholicism, as they worship their patron, San Jose. The Fire-Festivals are organized by the people, and for Valencia to come together as a group based on syncretism,  religion, spirituality and independence. This historical convention creates a season renewal as they move forward out of the dark winter into the spring as a community.



Ninots

The giant paper mache sculptures made for the festival represent famous people, political figures and myths are known as effigies.

FireWorks

After the parades, firecrackers fill the streets until the 2 pm firework show. This all leads up to the grand finale fire work show on the 18th. 

Parades

Parades start at 8 am every morning to gather everyone to the streets for festivities.
